Rita Nancy (Wolfe) Mollica

Rita Nancy Mollica (Wolfe), age 89. Passed away peacefully in Torrington on Thursday Sept. 29, 2016. Rita was born in Torrington, CT on August 13, 1927 to parents; Kenneth Austin Wolfe and Sophia Cecilia Novajosky Wolfe.

She grew up in Torrington and graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1941. As a young woman, Rita traveled to New York City and made her home there. Rita worked as a waitress at several well known restaurants and delis, where many famous celebrities requested her by name. While in New York, Rita met and married her first husband Daniel Bender. Sadly, Daniel died in 1978 after returning and residing back in Torrington. At a family wedding Rita would be introduced to Anthony J. Mollica who would happily become her second husband. “Tony” and Rita made their home in Torrington on Marcia Drive where they loved to be around all of their many family and friends until his death in 1987.

Rita worked as a home health aide and was a member of the Litchfield Hills Nurses Registry for many years where she enjoyed caring for those who needed daily help. She also found pleasure traveling to the casino’s with her friends.

Rita was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and Saint Francis of Assisi of Torrington.

Rita is survived by her sister-in-law, Olga M. Wolfe of Torrington and leaves behind beloved Nephews; Kenneth T. Wolfe Jr. (Mary) of Maine and Kevin T. Wolfe (Amity) of Litchfield.

Survivors also include her great nieces and nephews; Aaron, Alicia, Adam, Rachel, Jeremy, Dane, Derek, Sophie, Dylan and two great great nieces; Lauren and Kylie as well as many cousins and friends.  She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth T. Wolfe Sr.

She will be remembered for her joyous laughter and amusing life stories.

The Family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff and many residents of Litchfield Woods Health Care Center and the staff of VNA Northwest.

Friends and family may call between the hours of 9:30-11:00 a.m., Tuesday October 4, 2016 at Phalen Funeral Home, immediately followed by a funeral service there. Burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Torrington.
