Marian K. FitzGerald of Torrington
Marian (Kost) FitzGerald, 85, passed away on May 19, 2016 in Litchfield CT. Marian is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Jack FitzGerald. A Torrington resident, she and Jack moved
to Brandywine Assisted Living in Litchfield, CT this past year.  Marian was born in Brooklyn, NY to Anna (Metro) and Thomas Kost but soon moved back to Torrington. She was an Honor Society graduate of Torrington High School, Class of 1947 and stayed in touch with many of her friends through the 47 Club. Marian initially worked at the Southern New England Telephone Company. After raising her son, she worked as the Secretary to the Prosecutor in the Judicial Department, retiring in 1995. Marian was active as an officer of the Torrington Junior Women’s Club and the State Federation of Junior Women’s Clubs. She also
served on the first Beautification Committee for the City of Torrington. Marian found joy in the arts, theater and musicals in particular. She and Jack loved go to Broadway matinees, concerts at Tanglewood and were in attendance at most Warner Theater shows.
In addition to her husband, Marian is survived by her son Mark FitzGerald and his wife Jane of Harwinton, CT. Grandson John FitzGerald of Torrington. A niece, Nancy Barbieri and great niece, Gillian Barbieri. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Ferencak.
Jack and the family would like to thank Dr. Debra Brandt, Cherie Sabia and Gail Parks from the VNA, Kim Welch her caregiver for many years and the staff at Brandywine; Laurie Hull in particular, for their wonderful care and kindness.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday May 24th from 9AM to 10:30AM at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church with burial at St. Francis Cemetery.
