William Richard Boyens, 92, of Torrington passed away April 4, 2025, peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Marie (Arigoni) D'Vileskis-Boyens. Born in New York NY July 27, 1932, son of the late Charles Diedrick Boyens and Wilhelminia Margret (Hopp) Boyens he attended DeWitt Clinton HS, and received an NROTC scholarship to The University of Mississippi. In 1954 he received his BSCE and a commission as an Ensign, US Navy. He earned his Navy Wings in 1955 and served two years with Guided Missile Group 1 in the US Naval Air Missile Test Center, Point Mugu, CA. as a missile control pilot. After leaving the Military, he settled in Connecticut. He received a Professional Engineer's License in 1962 and a MS Degree from UCONN in 1963, receiving his Building Officials License in 1964. He was employed as a Civil/Structural Engineer, Project Engineer, and Building Official for the Town of Bloomfield. He was Past President and Life Member, Conn. Section, American Society of Civil Engineers, Past Pres. Hartford Chapter, Conn. Society of Professional Engineers, and Past President and Life Member of the Eastern States Building Officials Federation. He was Engineer of the Year in 1972 of the Society of Professional Engineers and member of Scabbard and Blade Military Honor Society and National Civil Engineering Honor Society. He was an Alumni Member of National Ski Patrol with 39 years active patrolling and Life Member CAP Flying Assoc. He enjoyed skiing, softball, flying, the L.A. Dodgers, the NY Giants, a cool glass of wine or scotch and sharing it with Marie for the past 45 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Susan and husband Jerry of S. Dennis MA, Jean Reis of Waimanalo HI, daughter in law Krista of Chicago, and grandchildren Ryan, Kalei, Sean, Christian Joseph, great grandchildren Charlotte and Dean, and the Arigoni family. He was predeceased by his son, Christian William, and brother Charles.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday April 10 at 1:00 PM at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington, with burial following at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington.
