Vernon Sanford Noad Jr., 95, of Torrington CT., passed away peacefully Wednesday January 18, 2023, at Litchfield Woods Health Care in Torrington CT. Vernon was born to the late Vernon Sr., and Elizabeth "Betty"(Pustinger) Noad on January 12, 1928. Vernon was a 1945 graduate of Torrington High School. After High School, he served stateside in the United States Air Force, prior to and during the Korean War. While on leave in Cullman, AL with a fellow airman, Vernon was introduced to the late Dora Ree Bolzie. According to Vernon, he knew Dora Ree was the one for him as soon as they met. Vernon and Dora Ree married in 1952 and spent 66 years together before she passed on November 13, 2018. After retiring from Westinghouse Corporation in 1988, Vernon volunteered with the Torrington Area Council of Churches and the Torrington Veteran Office. He was an active member of Center Congregational Church before falling ill. Vernon was an avid fan of baseball and word search puzzles. He also enjoyed collecting whatever caught his fancy, from baseball cards to dishes. he was a lifelong Torrington resident.
He is survived by sons, Vernon S. (Jacque Antrobus) Noad III of Lakeland FL, and R. Vincent (Cindy) Noad of Goshen CT, brother William Noad of Winsted CT, and sisters Barbara Whitecage of Jacksonville FL, and Janet Columbie of New Hartford CT. Vernon was the loving grandfather of Kenneth (Astrid) Noad, Andrew (Margaret) Noad, Adam (Sara) Noad, Matthew (Heather) Clark, Victoria (Simon) Ward, and Nathan Noad, and nine great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by sisters Betty Wesley and Phyllis Wollman.
Funeral services will be held Friday Jan. 27, 2023, at 11 AM at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
