TORRINGTON, Conn. — Thomas Charles “Tom” Whitten, 65, of Torrington, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, the same place where he was born on September 10, 1959. A proud U.S. Marine, Tom served his country with honor and commitment. After his military service, he continued a life of public service working for the Department of Transportation. His work ethic and quiet determination left a lasting impression on those around him.
Tom had a passion for the open road and spent much of his free time in his earlier years riding motorcycles and playing golf. Those who knew him best remember his deep loyalty, quiet humor, and unwavering love for his family and his beloved dog, Sophie.
He is survived by his son, Jason Whitten; his grandson, Landon Whitten; and his dearest friends, Tom and Pat Reynolds. He was predeceased by his father, Donald Whitten; his mother, Shirley Whitten; and his brother, Ricci Whitten. In keeping with his wishes, services will be private.
