TJ was born in Torrington,CT on December 6,1977 to Mary Winegar and Thomas Schanz Sr. and was employed By Platinum car wash and worked as Personal Care assistant part time.
At a very young age TJ’ s father shared a love of sports that would stay with him through his entire life.He was very involved in youth sports as a kid such as Torrington little League and Torrington pop Warner to name a few. Tj always excelled in what ever sport he was playing at the time and carried his talents onto the football field and Baseball field where he played for Torrington High School. In his adult life he played for years in the Torrington Adult males softball league some of that time being with his dad. There wasn’t a professional athlete he didn’t know about and knew their exact stats, position, or number in the draft. He loved all things sports and would fall asleep watching sports center.
TJ was a true definition of a friend. If he met you once he knew you. Never missing an opportunity to shout someones name out to get their attention just to say hello. He had many friends and all that were lucky to call him a friend knew it. He’d literally give to someone, even if it left him with nothing.
TJ Loved family. Whether it was catching up with his dad and step mom on the phone and looking forward to their next visit up here.Spending time with his beloved brother Nick who he often said was his hero. Whether it was a ride to the reservoir, a chance to work side by side with him on a job or attending a meeting with him, TJ always looked forward to it. Always coming home happy, at peace and smiling. He was excitedly awaiting the the birth of his new niece soon to be born to his brother Nick and wife Ally next month.
His true passion was spending time with his own family. His girlfriend Alison of 6 years and her three children their family dog and cat. He never missed an opportunity to play outside with Alison’s kids. Playing football, baseball, basketball or simply watching them ride their bikes. He was in his glory at one of their sports events often being one of the loudest cheerleaders.
TJ’s smile and laughter touched so many and his presence on this earth will be so greatly missed.
Tj is survived by his father Thomas Schanz Sr. and his wife Cheryl, His brother Nicholas Schanz and his daughters Angela and Elizabeth Schanz, His wife Ally and their soon to be baby girl Layla.
