Theresa (Lucier) Fay

Theresa Joyce Fay passed away quietly at her home in Goshen,Connecticut following a long illness on July 2, 2026. Theresa was surrounded by her family prior to her death.  
Theresa Joyce Lucia (Lucier) Fay was born to her parents, ErnestLucia (Lucier) and Blanche Sweeney on September 18, 1937 atFletcher Allen Health Care/Medical Center Campus in Burlington,
Vermont.  Theresa was the first of four children born to her parents. She is survived by her three siblings, Ernest J. Lucier Jr, Mary Lucier Belter and Madeline Lucier Nagle. Although born in Vermont, Theresa’s family eventually moved to Connecticut where she lived most of her life. The family resided in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut, and her fondest memories were of living on a farm in rural Cornwall, Connecticut. Theresa often spoke of her parents hardworking nature and the care that they gave her and her siblings while living on the farm. Theresa’s father worked for the Connecticut Department of Transportation until his retirement, while her mother worked as a stay at home mother, caring for the many children that resided in their home. Theresa spoke fondly of her parents and how supported she felt by them into her adult years. 
Theresa attended elementary school and high school in Northwest Connecticut, graduating from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1955.  Prior to graduation she met and later married Charles (Pete) Fay.  Following their wedding, the couple settled near Pete’s family, building a home in Goshen, Connecticut.  She remained close with her parents and her siblings throughout her life, sharing holidays and family events regularly.  
After building their home in Goshen, Theresa and Pete became parents to two children, William (Billy) Fay (DOB: 10/12/1957) and Peter Allen Fay (DOB: 11/4/1958).  Theresa frequently spoke of
her parents helping her care for her young children while Pete was away in the Army following his graduation from High School in the late 1950’s. Upon his return from military service, Pete worked several jobs to support his family including delivering milk to people’s homes and later working in the construction field. Theresa was a stay at home mother until her children became adults and their eldest son, Billy, passed away in a car accident. Theresa’s husband joined their son Peter in the workforce, who established his own successful construction
business, Fay and Wright Excavating in the 1980’s.
In the mid 1980’s, Theresa’s son, Peter met and married Denise Bartles Fay.  Denise came into their marriage with her three- year old son, Justin Barrante.  Together they had two children,
Melissa Fay (DOB; 7/14/1987) and Caitlin Fay (DOB: 4/18/1989).  Becoming a grandmother to Justin and the girls was instrumental in helping Theresa heal from the loss of her son,
Billy. Theresa assumed a significant role in Justin and her granddaughter’s lives, caring for them on a daily basis while their parents worked, running their own business’s.  Theresa shared
her life with Justin, Melissa, and Caitlin including taking them on vacation to Disney and various Caribbean Islands during their childhood. She ensured that the children had the best she could provide including dance lessons, fun outings like going to the beach and elaborate holidays.     When Theresa was in her forties, she joined the workforce for the first time. She became employed at Education Connection in Litchfield, Connecticut. She started out as a receptionist at the front desk and later assisted in running the school lunch programs managed by her employer. Theresa enjoyed new friendships while working at Education Connection, some of
which lasted more than 30 years.  When she retired from Education Connection, she spent several years working at local daycare centers so that she could continue to be around children. Theresa spent her life caring about and for many children over the years. She often offered love and support to children she met at work and in her personal life.

Theresa traveled extensively to the Caribbean, enjoying the islands immensely. She especially loved Aruba and took many vacations with her husband and grandchildren over the years.
Theresa and her husband, Pete, took many cruises with the friends that they met on their island vacations.   Theresa Joyce Fay will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her son, Peter A. Fay; her granddaughter, Melissa Fay and her partner, Josh Gomes and their sons, Taylor and Dillon; her granddaughter Caitlin Fay and her partner, Ryan Finnegan and their son Corey; her step grandson, Justin Barrante and her siblings, Ernest J. Lucier Jr., Mary Lucier Belter, and Madeline Lucier Nagle. Theresa will be missed by extended family members including her nieces, Alice Macchi and Pam Lucier and her nephews, Daryl Belter and Scott Belter.
