Teresa Beaudry, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and nurse, passed away on Wednesday afternoon. She was a woman of deep faith, fierce dedication, and quiet generosity whose love shaped the lives of all who knew her.
Born into a bustling farmhouse as the only girl among six brothers, she learned early the value of hard work, order, and perseverance. Tired of cleaning up after her brothers, she became fascinated by the immaculate cleanliness in hospitals, which sparked her lifelong passion for nursing. After graduating from Torrington High School in 1947, she pursued her calling at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1950. She was awarded the St. Mary’s Hospital Aid Society Prize for “excellence in theory and clinical nursing
service,” a testament to the compassion, intelligence, and diligence she carried through her 45-year career at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Teresa's life revolved around care, both for her patients and for her family. She found joy in the simple pleasures: tending her garden, playing the accordion and guitar (with “Pistol Packin’ Mama” as a particular favorite), and singing as a member of the Berkshire Singers. She also taught catechism at Saint Francis in Torrington, where her faith and love of her community shone brightly. A devout Catholic, she rarely missed daily mass, and when her health prevented her from attending in person, she continued her devotion through televised services on EWTN.
To her grandchildren, she was a pillar of warmth and guidance (with a firm hand and a trusty wooden spoon). Her home was filled with love, faith, and the scent of fresh produce that she offered to passersby each summer on the hill. She believed deeply in the goodness of her family, often saying, “Say your prayers to the Lord,” and “I have faith you will all grow up to be fine young men and women.”
In her later years, her three daughters lovingly rotated a schedule to care for her, ensuring she could remain in her home—the place she loved most—for as long as possible. She often spoke of her wish that her brothers might outlive her and stand to speak at her funeral, a reflection of the love and loyalty she held for her family. As it turned out, she endured longer than most, as a quiet testament to her resilience and strength.
Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; her sons, Michael and Steven; and five of her six brothers. She leaves behind her daughters, Roseanne and Christine Beaudry of Torrington, Donna Rubin of Norfolk; her son David Beaudry and his wife Helen, also of Norfolk; and countless grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, faith, and a life spent in service to others. She will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday Aug. 11 at 11 AM at Saint Francis Church. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Phalen Funeral Home. www.phalenfuneral.com
