Susan Gilbert Obituary

TORRINGTON – Susan (Dan) Gilbert, 67, of Torrington, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, on Thursday Jan. 21, 2021, after a long fight with kidney disease. She was the loving wife of William L Gilbert and mother of Michael and Matthew Gilbert.
Susan was born in Hartford on Sept. 6, 1953, daughter of the late Florence (Rosenstien) and Marshall K. Dan. She was a graduate of Torrington High, class of 1971 and the University of Connecticut, class of 1975. Susan taught at Torrington High from 1975 until 1979. During that time, she organized and coached the first Torrington High girl’s tennis team. After leaving teaching Susan worked in the accounting industry for various CPA firms and private businesses. Prior to her retirement in 2015 she served as Director of Finance for NextLevel Marketing in Westport CT. Susan was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching her Yankees especially when they played the Red Sox. She was also an active member of the Torrington Little League, while her sons were playing. She served as Treasurer for several years. She was predeceased by an older brother David Dan of Philadelphia. She is survived by her husband, of 45 years, William L Gilbert, her two sons Michael and Matthew Gilbert and a sister Judy (Dan) Michael of Cleveland OH. Plus, other nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their profound thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Technicians at DaVita Torrington Dialysis and the Northwest Foothills Hospice unit for their dedicated and passionate care of Susan over the course of her illness and during her last few days.

Graveside Services will be held at Northfield Cemetery May 22 2021 at 10 AM. and a celebration of her life will follow her interment. Arrangements will be announced later.
