Sue (Deming) Prince

With great love and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Sue Ann Deming Prince, 92, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 16, 2026.  Sue was born June 8, 1934, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of Mason A. Deming and Ruth Bates Deming.  She spent her early childhood in Goshen, CT, before moving to Mount Pleasant Farm in Torrington when she was 8 years old.   She attended Torrington public schools, graduating with the class of 1952.
After marrying Richard C. Prince on April 9, 1955, they lived briefly in Hartford, then Burlington, and back at Mount Pleasant Farm in Torrington before building their home on John Brown Road where they raised their five children.  After she and her siblings finished caring for her elderly parents, Sue & Dick moved to Cape Coral, FL in 2002. They embraced the Florida lifestyle doing many activities such as biking, aquasize, enjoying lunches with friends and dancing.  Sue was often the first one up dancing at any musical events.  They enjoyed their 49 years of marriage until Dick’s passing in 2004.   She then met Dwight Bringinger with whom she spent 11 years traveling and enjoying his company until he also passed.   In 2021 Sue relocated back to Torrington to be closer to her family.   
Sue’s working life reflected her dedication, reliability, and warm spirit. She began her career at Brunswick/Union Hardware in Torrington.  She moved on to working in the office at John F. Besozzi Insurance,  E.J. Kelley Trucking and the Billing Department at The Torrington Company.  In later years, she became a familiar and much-loved person while working in several local package stores. Her dependability and connection with customers had the store owners often vying for her time, each hoping to have her on their schedule.   
Sue poured her heart into her family and friends.  She was involved with the 4-H club, Junior Homemakers, helping to teach young girls sewing and other practical skills. A talented seamstress, she made many outfits for her children in their younger years. She also had a deep love of music—teaching herself to play the organ and later enjoying the piano, harp, and dulcimer. Her passion for music influenced her children, some of whom went on to play in local bands and orchestras she proudly supported.  Even at age 91, she could be found dancing in the community room at Wolcott Hall.
Her creativity and hands-on spirit were evident in everything she did. She enjoyed rug hooking, quilting, jigsaw puzzles, baking and sewing, crafting everything from clothing to handmade sheep for every member of the family. She delighted in the surprise of presenting the sheep all at once—set up like a little herd—at a Christmas gathering. She also sewed handmade bears for each of her children and grandchildren, secretly making them and then hanging them from the ceiling, another of her memorable surprises.
Sue leaves behind her five children—Pamela (Raymond) Petrovits, Gregory Prince, Holly (Daniel) Krouse, VaLorie Reder, and Richard J (Isaura) Prince—as well as nine grandchildren (Alan, Eric, Danny, Vicki, Ashley, Brian, Allison, Richelle, and Ben), seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her beloved sisters Martha Deming (Peter) Riley and Barbara Deming (Tim) Whitney and was predeceased by her sister Margaret Deming (Bob) Janssen.  Her family and friends will remember her warmth, humor, and the deep love she carried for all of them.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Wolcott Hall Nursing Center for their care of Sue over the past year.  As a resident “social butterfly” Sue loved reconnecting with old friends and making new ones while living there, forming a special bond by sharing mutual support and understanding with any fellow residents who were also navigating Parkinsons disease. 
Sue’s burial will take place on Saturday, July 18th at 10:00 AM at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut Street in Torrington followed by a short service and lunch at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Avenue. The family invites all friends and family to attend any part of Sue’s celebration of life.
