Shirley (Lewis) Cooper of Torrington, CT passed away peacefully Sunday July 12th at her home. She was the loving wife of Richard P. Cooper. Shirley was born in Dayville, CT on March 1, 1936 to the late Myrtice (Weeks) and Cyrus Lewis. Shirley and her husband Dick owned Dick Cooper TV & Appliance for 30 years before turning it over to their children. In addition to her husband, Shirley leaves a daughter Sherry (Cooper) Percivalle, a daughter Judith Cooper and a son Richard S. Cooper; grandchildren David Percivalle, Amy (Percivalle) Brophy, Karissa Cooper and Kenneth Cooper; great grandchildren Ford & Ophelia Brophy and Mason Percivalle. Shirley leaves a brother Sherman Lewis and his wife Muriel Lewis and was predeceased by brother Robert Lewis. Shirley had 7 nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a devoted wife for 65 years and was a life-long member of the former Calvary Baptist Church, now Northwest Hills Community Church. Shirley had a deep Christian faith and served in many capacities within the church. She was always lending a hand with meals, making items for outreach ministries and served on the women’s guild and as a deacon. Shirley was the accountant for the family business, was a long term servant for the Salvation Army and made items for LARC Festival Of Trees.
Shirley dedicated her entire life to family. She led by Christian example and always found the good in everything. She was filled with love and shared her gifts of humor, laughter and friendship. She was talented with many hobbies including gourmet cooking, gardening, sewing, caning, interior decorating, candle making and knitting. Shirley and Dick had a lifelong love for camping and traveled across the U.S. many times.
The last 7 years of her life, Shirley suffered from Alzheimer disease resulting in in-home care for the last year. The family thanks UCONN Medical Center and caregivers, Vicki, Hannah, Bonnie, Kelly and Lana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday July 17th at Northwest Hills Community Church, 349 Prospect St. Torrington with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. A wake will be held 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday July 16th at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington.
