Shirley (Buchardt) Bronson

Shirley Buchardt Bronson, 94, passed away on December 13 at Valerie Manor in Torrington, CT. She was born in New Britain, CT on August 6th, 1925 to Ernest and Olive (Pickup) Buchardt.  She was pre-deceased by her husband, Elliott C. Bronson, a son Kimball Stephen Bronson, two brothers, Ernest and George, and three sisters, Mary Alice, Barbara, and Jane.

Shirley loved to talk about growing up in Pleasant Valley and camping at People’s Forest. For most of her life she was a self-employed antique dealer and resident of Winchester Center.  After her husband’s retirement, they lived in and loved Zephyrhills, Florida.  Shirley was a good cook and an amazing baker, well known for her apple pies and homemade bread. And, she was revered for her “clunker donuts” on Opening Day of Fishing on the Whiting River.

She leaves behind her son George (Claire) of Enfield, CT; her daughter Heidi Melia (Jon) of Torrington, CT; and her son Joel (Jean) of Falls Village, CT. She also leaves six grandchildren, Christopher Bronson of Springfield, MA; Kevin (Beth) Bronson of Roaring Spring, PA; Meredith (Douglas) Neiman of Somers, CT; Beth (Elliott) Regan of Dallas, TX; Emily Bronson (Ted Moy) of Falls Village, CT; and Rachel (Stephen) Corrigan of Alexandria, VA; and her two favorites,  great-granddaughters, Genevieve Neiman and Esme Moy.

There are no calling hours.  Burial will be private in the Winchester Center Cemetery.  Memorial donations can be made to the Winchester Center Congregational Church, Winchester Center, CT or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Florida 33607.
