On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Ruth L. DeAlessio/Nasturwich (Mohan), beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Harwinton, surrounded with love, with her daughter, Stephanie DeAlessio-Chiappa, and grandson, Bryce DeAlessio by her side.
Ruth was born in Proctor, VT on December 5, 1935 to her late parents Philip and Marion Mohan. She was a graduate of New Milford High School in New Milford, CT. She was married to the late Stephen L. DeAlessio for 19 years, and a second spouse who passed in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie and her husband Paul Chiappa, her grandson, Bryce DeAlessio, and his wife Tyna, and her great-grandsons Stephen and Seth, one brother, Erwin Mohan, and three sisters, Frances Thomas, Sharon Sheagren, and Sandra Gillotti, and many nieces and nephews.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, CT, for several years, until a tragic motor vehicle accident with a drunk driver in 1977 left her permanently blind. Ruth moved to Torrington, CT in 2004, and lived for a period of 9 years at The Workman Home, where she made many friends among the other residents and staff. As her health declined, she moved to her daughter’s home in Harwinton, CT to be lovingly cared for until our Lord Jesus called her home.
There will be no calling hours and a private graveside service for the immediate family is planned. A “Celebration of Life” dinner will be held in her honor, the date and time yet to be announced.
Please make any donations in her honor to: The Workman Home, 244 Forest St. Torrington, CT 06790.
