Roger Crockett Obituary

Roger L. Crockett, age 96, died on September 20, 2025, at the Farmington Station Assisted Living Facility in Farmington, CT. Roger, the son of Lloyd H. Crockett and Mildred A. Crockett (Ryan), was born in Whitinsville, MA on March 21, 1929.

A long-term resident of New Hartford, he was married to the late Ruth P. Crockett (Niemis) for 65 years. He is survived by his three sons, Lee (Diane) of Galesville, MD, Brian (Juanita) of Canton, CT, and Bruce (Bettina) of Burlington, CT. Roger is also survived by five grandchildren, Jordan (Eric), Elizabeth (Jake), Leslie (Karl), Nicole, and Matthew, and two greatgrandchildren, Graham and Emmett.

Roger was very proud of his military service as a member of the Connecticut National Guard and in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a house painter, first working for his father and then taking over the family business after returning from military service in 1951. During his over 50 years running Roger L. Crockett Painting and Decorating, Roger specialized in historic painting and decorating restoring many historic homes in Litchfield County as well as the Torrington History Museum and Harwinton Historical Society. Churches were a particular specialty and over the years Roger’s crew painted many Litchfield County churches including the Trinity Episcopal and St Francis of Assisi Churches in Torrington, and the Harwinton Congregational Church. Roger served on the Building Committee of the First United Methodist Church of Torrington that oversaw the construction of a new church building and parsonage in the late 1960s. He and his family, father Lloyd, brother Norman, and sons Lee and Brian, painted the entire Church and as a testament to the quality of their workmanship, much of the Church, including the sanctuary, has never been repainted.

Roger and Ruth were active members and past presidents of the Charter Oak Unit of the WBCC, an Airstream trailer club. They spent much of their later life traveling the east coast and mid-west of the U.S. with their Airstream, and spending winters at the Travelers Rest campground in Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roger’s name to the First United Methodist Church’s Book of Remembrance, 21 Fern Drive, Torrington, CT 06790  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 11 th at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church of Torrington. online memorials www.phalenfuneral.com
