Robert B Thomson, 85, of Torrington, passed away Sunday, December 3rd, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Dolores Przetak Thomson.
Robert was born in Torrington, on October 29, 1938, a son of the late Mary (Shaer) and Frederick Thomson. A graduate of Torrington High Class of 1956, he served in the US Marine Corps during the Cold War. He was a 33-year member of the Torrington Fire Department and retired as Deputy Chief. He was a Life Member of Torrington Lodge of Elks, and was a Past Exalted Ruler, Past District Deputy, and served as Treasurer there for many years. He was President and on the Board of Directors of the Torrington Municipal and Teacher's Federal Credit Union, as well as a member of the Sullivan Senior Center. An avid duckpin bowler, he was active with the Elks Bowling League and Golf League and played softball in the Torrington Merchant League. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was an animal lover and collector of Hess Trucks and Nascar memorabilia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Susan Shayne and husband Andrew of Middletown Springs VT, and son Robert H. Thomson and wife Susan of Winchester, grandchildren Caitlin Morrow of NY, and Dylan Thomson of Winchester and Catherine Shayne of PA, John Shayne of ME, and Ashley Bioski of OR. He also leaves a brother Richard Thomson of Torrington and sister Shirley Lautz of Milford.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday Dec 11, at 11 AM at St. Francis Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at Phalen Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-5 PM.
