Richard Stanley (Dick) Stomski Sr., 93, of Torrington passed away March 7, 2024 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of nearly 72 years of Nina Sacchetti Stomski. Born in Pittsfield MA November 4, 1930, son of the late Bernard and Sadie Stomski, he was drafted into the Army after High School and served honorably during the Korean War. He later obtained his Masters Degree from North Adams Teacher's College and taught in the Torrington Public School System for 35 years. To this day, he is fondly remembered by many as their favorite teacher, making science fun with his dynamic teaching style. He enjoyed hanging out with his buddies at the Kof C, watching the Red Sox, UConn men and women's basketball and golfing, gardening and painting. He also collected coins, stamps and baseball cards, and managed stock market clubs. In addition to his loving wife Nina, who he married June 14, 1952, he leaves sons Richard Stomski and wife Roberta, Mickey Stomski and wife Gail, and daughter Lisa Contard and husband Marc. Also surviving are grandchildren. Niki and Jeffrey Brown, Tara and Jeremy Gray, Richard and Christine Stomski, Jonathon and Michelle Stomski, and Keagan Poole, great-grandchildren Jillian and Caitlyn Stomski, Nina and Roman Brown, Oakley Gray, and Ariana, Demi, and Chanel Poole.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 12 at 11 AM at Phalen Funeral Home with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call before the service from 9-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Heart Association. www.phalenfuneral.com
