Raymond J Berti

Raymond J. Berti, 87, of Avon, passed away on February 18, 2021, at Brandywine Living in Litchfield.  He was the husband of Eleanor Leigh-Berti.  Raymond was born on March 7, 1933, in Torrington, the son of the late Vittorio and Rosa Tusoni Berti.

Raymond proudly served in the U.S. Army as a corporal in the 47th Infantry Division Band.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1959.  He was a Radar Systems Engineer and worked for Autonetics in Anaheim, California, Norden Systems in Norwalk, Connecticut, and Technology Service Corporation in Trumbull, Connecticut.

Raymond married Arlene Jensen in June of 1957.  They lived in Anaheim, California, and Trumbull, Connecticut, where they raised their two children.  Later in life they lived in Milan, Italy, and Avon, Connecticut.  They were happily married for 48 years.  Several years after Arlene passed away, he married Eleanor Leigh, a lifetime friend.  They enjoyed many wonderful years together.

Raymond loved his family first and foremost.  He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather.  He enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives in Italy, entertaining, and big band music.  He was very proud of his Italian heritage and continued to carry on his family’s traditions.  He was a talented musician and played the clarinet while serving in the military and the saxophone in several local bands.  

In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his son Michael Berti and his wife, Elizabeth, of Seymour, granddaughters, Diane and Kathryn, stepsons Louis, Jeffrey, and Robert Leigh and their families, a niece, Valerie Royals, and a nephew, David DeMichiel, of Torrington.  He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved daughter, Diane Marie, his first wife, Arlene, and his sister, Gina Berti Kovalaski.

Services will be held on March 6 at 11:00 a.m. at New Saint Francis Cemetery in Torrington.
