Norma Harss Obituary

Norma Arlene (Pease) Harss, 89, was laid to rest April 22, 2025. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry Harss; her daughter, Sandra Harss; her granddaughter, Meredith Vogt; and two sisters, Marion Naegelen and Gloria Topping. Norma is survived by two daughters, Diane Vogt and Susan Szymanski; and a sister, Carole Bardino. She is also survived by grandson James Covaleski, his wife Jessica, and great-grandchildren Jacob, Julia and Matthew; grandson Nicholas Szymanski, his wife Allison, and great-grandchildren Nathan and Chloe; grandson Daniel Covaleski and his girlfriend, MJ Fisher; grandson Benjamin Vogt and his wife, Luvianka; as well as extended family.

After attending Bay Path Junior College, a then-secretarial school in Longmeadow, MA , Norma went on to work as a medical secretary, then as a legal secretary in later years. In 1971, she earned her Realtor license and spent over 30 years selling residential and commercial properties; her many awards included Realtor of the Year. A lifelong Connecticut resident, she was a true New Englander and often said that there is nowhere else in the world she would rather be. A part of her heart always remained in the Northwest Hills, and she retired to Torrington after spending the majority of her life in central Connecticut. During her years of living in New Britain and Berlin, she volunteered at the Friendship Service Center and was active member of her community. Intrigued by genealogy, her extensive research revealed that her family traces back to the American Revolution, so Norma became a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

We will truly miss her cheerful smile, spunky attitude, generous spirit, warm hugs, quick wit and great cooking. Most sincere gratitude to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Litchfield County, medical providers and caregivers for their kindness, compassion, guidance and support. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the Disabled American Veterans or the ASPCA.
