Melvin Kamens, 88, of Harwinton passed away Oct. 3, 2024 at Wolcott Hall. He was the husband of Shirley Daigle Kamens. Born in Terryville March 17, 1936 son of the late Edward and Wanda Schultz Kamens, he was the youngest of 6 children. He served in the US Army and was employed in the forge shop at New Departure. Predeceased by his wife Marianne Salerno Kamens in 1989, he married Shirley in 1995. He was an avid snow skier, ice skater, and an accomplished pilot, flying from Danbury and Johnnycake airports. He was a member of the Terryville American Legion and Thomaston Rod and Gun Club member.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children. Jay and Mari Allen, Michele Kamens with Scott Will, Bonnie and Tony Cicerchia, Mary Jane and Fran Ford, Patricia Abeling with Mike Marzano, Sharon Simmons, Donna and Rich Kobylenski, and Larry and Dana Guilford. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was predeceased by a granddaughter Samantha Christiano and his 5 siblings.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 PM at Phalen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Goshen Center Cemetery. Friends may call before the service from 11-1. Memorial contributions can be made to Terryville American Legion 245 Main St Terryville CT 06786. www.phalenfuneral.com
