Mary Wilt, 92, of Torrington, CT passed away January 19, 2026, on her 92nd birthday. She was born in Torrington, CT, where she remained a life long resident. She graduated from Torrington High School Class of 1952, where she wrote her graduating class song. She was the beloved daughter of Joseph Gallo and Mary (Mlynar) Gallo of Torrington, CT, both born in Mengusovce, Slovakia.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, David N. Wilt. Her brothers, Emil Shalling of Ontario, Canada and Paul E. Gallo of Pleasant Valley, CT.
Mary was a devout God-fearing Christian. She was a life long member of the former Calvary Baptist Church. She would also attend the Slovak church because she cherished her roots. Mary played piano and was an avid reader. She liked to read medical information to help family and friends. She also enjoyed genealogy and was a great resource for others. She had a sharp mind and a fantastic memory.
Mary was a very kind and modest person, always thinking about others and putting them before herself. She had worked for Union Hardware and Travelers Insurance Company. She had a Shaklee Distributorship for over 30 years. Most of all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother and never stopped taking care of her family.
Mary is survived by her six children: Sarah Kammerer of Irving, TX, Coleen Marchese (husband Jack) of Milford, CT, Sean Wilt (wife Amy) of Middlebury, CT, Kristen Puhalski (husband Robert)
of Fort Mill, SC, Amie Wilt of Torrington, CT, Joseph Wilt of Torrington, CT. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren: Nicholas Kammerer, Jack Jr and Joey Marchese, Thomas Martel, Trisha Ubermuth, Haley Wilt, James Covill, Justin and Julie Puhalski, Lola and Calli Wilt. Great grandchild Mari Tiguila.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 10am -12 noon followed by a service at 285 Migeon Ave, Torrington, CT. Reception to follow at The Mill House on Winsted Rd in Torrington.
