Martin J. Boyajian, 97, of Torrington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Marty was born July 6, 1927, in Boston, MA, where he grew up and graduated from Watertown High School. He was inducted into the Army Air Corps, and on to the Philippine Islands during WWII, honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1947. He married Anna Kachajian in 1949. In 1950 he was recalled into the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. honorably discharged in 1951, taking a job at Boston University for the Jimmy Fund research group. In 1953 he moved his family to Bantam, CT where he took a job with the Torrington Company as a tool designer, retiring in 1981. In 1966 he moved to Torrington where he lived out his life.
He had many hobbies, among them always doing magic tricks for everyone, playing cards, building and flying radio controlled airplanes with the Torrington Balsa Bandits Club, an avid competition shooter, hunter, and gun safety teacher while a member of the Torrington Gun Club since 1967, and a member of the Sullivan Senior Center where he served as a board member, helped serve lunches, taught computer classes, and taught English classes.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise Bourque of Torrington, and her husband Roger Bourque. Marty is predeceased by his wife Anna, and son Martin. He has 2 grandchildren, Christopher Bourque of FL and Abigail Hyatt of TN, and 3 great-grandchildren, Sophia Bourque, Julie, and Elizabeth Hyatt.
