Marcus Hallum Obituary

Marcus V. Hallum of Canton, passed away at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital on October 20, 2021, surrounded by his family, at the age of 72.

Marcus is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Jules V. & Phyllis Hallum of Portland, Oregon.

Marcus is survived by his devoted wife, Patrice, of 50 years. 

Marcus is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kirsten T. Anderson of Canton, CT and son Andrew V. Hallum of Charleston, SC. His four grandsons Marcus ‘Marky’ and Chris Entsminger, Johnny and Patrick ‘Lucky’ Anderson; his three step granddaughters Rebecca, AJ and Lou Anderson and their father, John ‘J.L.’ Anderson. His sisters  Rev.Jessica Wimmer and her husband Dana of Des Moines, IA and their three children Thomas, Matthew and Margaret and Elizabeth Jacobs and her husband Kelvin of Mendocino, CA and her two children, William and Victoria. He has a large extended family which includes sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and life long friends who also love and remember him fondly.  

 

Marcus was born in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1949. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School, in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1967 and went on to earn a bachelors in history from the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, NC in 1972 and a Juris Doctorate from the Tulane School of Law in New Orleans, LA in 1975.  He worked as an attorney for over 40 years, in Waterbury, CT, receiving awards for his pro bono work in the Juvenile Courts.

Marcus played golf, basketball and slow pitch softball. He rooted for the Steelers, Tarheeels and UConn Women's Basketball teams.  He was an avid reader and history buff.  His humor made it hard to not crack a smile when you were around him.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at The Elks Lounge #372 Ballroom, 70 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT on November 7, 2021 from 11:00-1:30pm, with a Memorial Service at 11:15am, there will be a luncheon to follow. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Pleasant Valley Children’s Center, 19 Church Street, New Hartford, 06057, www.pvcckids.org.
