Marcelina Irizarry Montalvo

Marcelina Irizarry Montalvo age 89, lovingly known as Laly, passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 24, 2025. Born in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, she was the wife of her late husband, Manuel Ruiz.  She lived most of her life in Brooklyn, NY. She later resided in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico with her loving husband from 1996 till they moved to Torrington, CT in 2006.
She lived her life rooted in family and in the simple joys that made every day meaningful. She devoted her life to family. One of her joys was cooking and shopping.She always welcomed you with a cup of coffee and you would rarely leave her home with an empty stomach. She loved giving gifts and it didn’t have to be a special occasion for her to treat you with that small gesture of love. That was just her way.  She loved walking in her daughter in law’s garden, walking among the sweet aroma and vibrant flowers and picking  a few to put in her vase.
Survivors include her three children, Madeline Ruiz, Edward Ruiz, his wife ,Marianela Ruiz of Torrington, CT. Nixon Ruiz, his wife Denise Ruiz of Queens, NY.
Her grandchildren,Angel,Jasmine,Joel and Nico. Great grandchildren , Angelica, Adonis and Julius.
Sisters, Carmen Irizarry, Leonor Irizarry and brother Emiliano Irizarry. Many nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews.
She left a legacy of love that will live on in all who knew her.

God made a wonderful mother,

And he gave that dear mother to me.
