Lynn M. Stengel, 73, of Torrington, lost her battle with brain cancer and passed away on November 7, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Bridgeport. Born in Torrington on September 29, 1951, she was the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Irene Shanahan Stengel. Lynn graduated from Torrington High School and dedicated many years of her career as the Assistant Manager at Pine Grove Cemetery Association in Waterbury.
Lynn is survived by her loving sister, Mary Vargas, and her husband Al, and her brother, Fred Stengel. She also leaves behind her cherished niece, Sydney Stengel, and nephew, Adam Vargas, as well as her dear aunt and uncle, Matthew and Lois Shanahan, her Godmother, Lillian Fairchild, and several cousins.
Lynn was fiercely independent and hard-working, taking great pride in owning her home. She loved spending time outdoors, nurturing her plants and beautiful flowers, and creating a relaxing oasis in her yard where she often entertained family and friends. Her love for the water was evident in the joy she found by her pool and in other water-related activities. Pink was her favorite color, reflecting her vibrant personality and love for life.
Lynn was beloved by many, known for her beauty inside and out. She exemplified true friendship and had a heart of gold. Her wonderful laugh and sarcastic humor were infectious. Her deep love for her niece, Sydney, and her nephew, Adam, was evident in her unwavering devotion to them. An avid thrifter, Lynn always kept an eye out for treasures for herself and others, delighting in finding cardinals for her sister and fishing items for her brother. Despite facing significant health challenges over the last 15 years, Lynn maintained a positive attitude and hopeful outlook for the future. Friends and family always came first, and she cared deeply about others.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 10:30 AM at Saint Francis Church, located at 160 Main Street, Torrington. Friends may call from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Phalen Funeral Home. Donations may be to The Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield.
