Luis Tacoronte Obituary

Luis Tacoronte of Torrington passed away on October 15, 2021 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by family, friends and dedicated nursing staff.

Luis was born on November 16, 1938 in Cuba and is pre-deceased by his parents, Juan and Hortensia Tacoronte and his older brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Juan and Felina Tacoronte. In addition to nieces and nephews in Cuba and Florida, he will be dearly missed by his two sisters and their spouses:  Teresita and Isidro Campos, and Hortensia and Jorge Fernandez-Baujin. In addition, Luis was a beloved uncle to:  Teresita and Carlos Businelli, Maria and Kathy Campos, Jorge Fernandez-Baujin, and Ana Maria and Patrick Downey. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandnieces and nephews:  Nicole and Peter De Thier, Patrick and Katelyn Downey, Stephanie Businelli, Noah Baujin, Amanda Mae Downey, and Ada Baujin.

Luis grew up in Havana, Cuba where he attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School.  He graduated with honors with a degree in Accounting.  He was employed with the Cuban Railroad, pioneering the application of IBM Computer Technology.  In January of 1962, Luis moved to Hoboken, New Jersey.  He worked on Wall Street with Goodbody & Co. where he became the manager of the Data Processing Department.  In 1966, Luis became a United States citizen. Merrill Lynch purchased Goodbody & Co. and enrolled Luis at Pace University, where he studied computer Technology and Programming.  Luis became the Vice President of the Operations Center, managing communications, hardware and software facilities worldwide.  He made many life-long friendships during his tenure. 

Upon retirement, Luis moved to Torrington where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He was loved by many due to his amiable and generous nature.  Luis was a devout Catholic and supported many charities.  He enjoyed painting, gardening, and Opera.  The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to his caregiver Debra and his dedicated friend Carmen.
