Lucretia Huxley Obituary

Lucretia Lamphier Huxley, age 86, died on Saturday May, 2nd, 2020 , at Hartford Hospital. She was a resident at  Litchfield Woods in Torrington for the past 21 months, where she contracted the coronavirus.  Lucretia, daughter of Charles and Nina Twining Harrison, born on January 7th, 1934, attended Bakerville School and Torrington High School, and began her working life at The A&P, Blake Motor Lines, Dileo's Restaurant, as a cook at Southwest School, and as a special needs aide for Dufour Bus Company. She grew up on a farm In New Hartford, but spent most of her married life in Torrington. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning fruits and vegetables, and was proud of blue ribbons awarded to her from the Bethlehem Fair. She loved rides with Dad through the country to nowhere, vacations with her kids, and Kelly bus trips. A selfless soul, she was very giving, and always thought of others before herself.
Whenever asked how she was doing, her answer was always "I'm okay". She made nightly phone calls to her children, and if she got the answering machine, the message that was always left was "just Mom". Much more than "just mom", she was stubborn, kind, loving, and caring, and a wonderful mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. There was never a phone, a piece of bread, or a piece of chocolate cake that she didn't like. Vegetables did not have the same appeal. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Lucretia is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Nuhn {Gary}, and her children: Lucretia Dellagnese {Richard}, Debbie Roberts  {George}, Cindy Murphy {John}, Ruth Huxley, Walter Huxley Jr. {Karen}, Sandy Swanson {Nils}, grandchildren Jennifer McColley {Travis}, Michael Dellagnese {Jennifer}, George Roberts Jr. {Kelly}, Timothy Roberts {Cyndi}, Kevin Roberts {Kaitlyn}, Danielle Murphy, Rebecca Soto {David}, Zachary Huxley {Seina}, Joseph Tullock, Shayne Tullock {Zoey}, Morgan Tullock, and Seth Swanson. Great grandchildren: Corrynne Hibbs {Domenic} Everett Bottass, Terryn & Hunter McColley, Aubrie & Carson Dellagnese, Audrey Maghini, Evan & Ethan Roberts, Juniper Roberts and David & Chloe Soto, and great great grandchild Rosemary Hibbs.

She was predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate Walter, by her brothers Albert, Floyd, and Lyman, and by sisters Margaret, Josephine, and by a special sister-in-law and friend Helen Ruth Huxley.  Lucretia's family would like to thank the ER staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, and especially the doctors, nurses, and Hospice workers at Hartford Hospital in the ER and especially on floor Nine North. for their professionalism and caring, during these very trying times.
