Kenneth George Blakeslee
June 19, 1955 - October 11, 2024
On October 11, Ken peacefully left this earth. Born in Torrington, Ken was the proud son of Vernon Sr. and Rose Blakeslee (née Noviasky). A graduate of Oliver Wolcott Tech., Ken started his career as a shop electrician at the Torrington Company. After nearly 10 years, he left to start Blakeslee Electric where he built a successful company and reputation for being a master of his field. He took great pride and joy in working hard, but was never too busy to help friends and family with projects large and small.
Ken enjoyed the outdoors. Some of his happiest times were spent camping, grilling, quading, and snowmobiling. Ken loved the beach. Annual trips to Wildwood, NJ were a favorite of his. He was especially fond of recalling the night when, in true Ken fashion, he stumbled upon the set of “Jaws” while traveling through Martha’s Vineyard with friends. Amicable and jovial, Ken enthusiastically responded “Sure!” to any invitation for adventure. Even in poor health, when asked how he was doing, he’d reliably respond “Just peachy!”
Ken had a large and loving network of family and friends. A master of SimCity and “Monopoly” mogul, Ken enjoyed keeping his kids up way past their bedtimes, never being one to let sleep interfere with a good time. He will be greatly missed by his son Jeremy, his wife Kali, and their children Clark and Anna. A source of great joy for Ken, his first born daughter, Deanna, will miss her Daddy. Ken was predeceased by his beautiful daughter Jenna. He spoke fondly and often of the time he spent with her in Bozeman, MT. He loved her children Aubrey and Jaden.
Being a brother was an important part of Ken’s life. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and their families: brother Sonny Blakeslee and wife Karen; sister Sandra Weiss and husband Jeffrey; sister Diane Tokarz and husband Glenn; nephews and nieces Christopher and wife Megan, Evan and fiancé Courtney, Samantha, Chelsea and husband Jonathan, Jennifer, Victoria and husband Dmitri, Regina and husband Will and Jacqueline; great nephews and nieces River, Hayes, Caden, and Arabella.
Ken leaves his sweetheart, Bonnie Devaux, with whom he shared more than 20 years. He loved being “grampy” to Kristopher and Gavin. In good health, the “Mayor of Benton Street” enjoyed long walks around the neighborhood, and chats with his many friendly neighbors.
Ken’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the Hospital of Central Connecticut, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Litchfield Woods, and to Glenell Morris for her years of compassionate care. In honor of Ken, his family asks you to enjoy a good meal, laugh with abandon, give compliments freely, let go of old grudges, and have no regrets.
A burial is planned for Saturday, October 26 at 10:00 am at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut Street, Torrington. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the service. All are welcome to come share a Ken story.www.phalenfuneral.com
