It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing on December 27 of Kathleen (Ferguson) DellaGhelfa, lifelong resident of Torrington. Born in 1950 to her beloved parents Garvin and Lillian Ferguson, she graduated from Torrington High School and immediately went on to pursue a career in nursing, a profession most suited to her giving, selfless nature. Kathy (as she was known to all) spent her entire career at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital where she performed nursing care that seemed unlikely, even miraculous, given her diminutive stature. She retired after a long career as a pharmacy technician at the hospital.
She is survived by her son Daren, her loving sisters Denice Percivalle (John) and Judy Sabia (Rock), her granddaughter Kayla, and four great-grandchildren, Shawn, Saint, Santino, and TJ with whom she just celebrated Christmas. She will be missed as well by her nieces and nephews, and especially by a small group of lifelong friends who will miss her laughter at their gatherings. She was predeceased by her ex-husband Gary, her parents Garvin and Lillian, grandparents Joseph and Victoria Dzialo, and recently by a most cherished friend, Nick Corvo. The world has lost a most beautiful spirit in Kathy, one of the kindest, most gentle souls to walk among us. The new year will be darker for us without her light. Kathy was a lover of nature, a writer of poetry, and kindness personified. To honor her memory, consider walking in the woods and thinking of her, writing a note to a loved one, or extending an act of kindness to a stranger.
Calling hours will be held at Phalen's Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, CT on Thursday, January 4 from 10:30 to 12:00. A brief cemetery service at St. Peter's Cemetery will follow.
