Julia Rose Maraia
Loving Aunt, Torin Corporation Retiree
Julia Rose Maraia, age 102, of Torrington, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, October 24,2024 at Litchfield Woods Health Care Center surrounded by Family. Auntie “Jules” was born in Torrington on August 7, 1922, daughter of the late Carmine and Mary (Silano) Maraia. She was employed at Torin Corporation until her retirement in 1984. Deeply religious, she was a communicant of St. Peters Church. She enjoyed visits to the shore, family outings, and cheering on the UConn Girls basketball team. She lived in the family home on Laurel Hill Rd her whole life and welcomed visits from friends and relatives over the years. Her family was very important to her. She took great pride of keeping in touch with all her cousins and aunts and how their families were doing. Always smiling, she was a perfect being of happiness and light, never having a bad thought or thing to say about anyone.
Julia leaves behind a niece and two nephews she helped raise in their youth, Eileen Piccolo (Donny) of Mamaroneck, N.Y., James Maraia (Judy) and Alfred Maraia and wife Donna of Torrington. Five grand nieces, a grandnephew and five great grandnieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Clara and brother Alfred.
The Family would like to thank Sheena, Jess and the rest of the staff on the first floor of Litchfield Woods Health Center for their wonderful care of Julia. Also, special thanks to her dear friend and longtime caregiver Kelly Leifert.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Oct 29 at Noon at Saint Peter Church with burial following at Saint Francis new Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service at Phalen Funeral Home from 10:30-11:30. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital. www.phalenfuneral.com
