Jozef F Stary

Jozef F. Stary passed away on March 12, 2026, just two days before his 97th . birthday. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 72 years, Stella (Antoniak) Stary. Jozef leaves behind four
children: Christine Sisko (Wayne), Teresa Barbieri (John), Richard Stary, and John Stary (Missy). In addition, Jozef left behind eight grandchildren, Jamie Hirsch of Sherborn, MA, Aaron Sisko of Meriden, CT, Zachary Barbieri of Coventry, RI, Ethan Barbieri of Hermosa Beach, CA, Mia Barbieri of Torrington, CT, Chloe Stary of Lutz, Florida, Heather Dionne, Nicole Spear of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and eleven great-grandchildren. Jozef was pre-deceased by five brothers, Casmir, Chester, Lojek, Bronek of Poland and Stanley of Torrington, CT. He is survived by two sisters, Celka Babrei of Poland and Genia Jalowiec of Orange, CT.
Joe, (the Candyman) was born on March 14, 1929, in Krolowka, Poland. He immigrated to America at the age of 19. Joe was a man who loved the sun and enjoyed tending to his gardens and flowers. He also enjoyed picking apples, cherries, plums and blueberries with his children and grandchildren. In his younger years, Joe liked to fish and work on cars.
Outside of working at the Torrington Company, Joe golfed and bowled until his early 80’s and won many awards. He also spent many years dancing the night away with his beloved wife and
often engaged his granddaughters in dancing as well. Stella and Joe would follow their favorite bands. There was always Polka music playing in the house and in his car.
Joe will be eternally missed. “Na zdrowie” or in family tradition “Nice Driveway”. There will be a funeral mass on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Great Parish, St. Francis Church 160 Main Street, Torrington, CT. www.phalenfuneral.com
