Joseph Reale Obituary

OBITUARY OF JOSEPH S. REALE, SR.

APRIL 26, 1936 – OCTOBER 24, 2021

Joseph S. Reale, Sr., aged 85, a lifelong resident of Connecticut, succumbed to his long battle with cancer while at home in Torrington in the early morning hours of October 24, 2021. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Adele (Keesler) Reale, who was by his side at the time of his passing.

Joe is also survived by, and will be deeply missed by, his children, Joseph S. Reale, Jr. of East Haddam, CT, Jeffrey T. Reale of Kensington, CT, Kathy Casper of Florida, Linda Bisciotti of Torrington, CT, and Robert Guiheen of Torrington, CT.

Mourning Joe’s loss, too, are his grandchildren, Jesse Reale of New Hampshire, Seth Reale of Kensington, CT, Joseph Reale III of East Haddam, CT, Nick Bisciotti of Rhode Island, Nina Madsen of Vermont, Tori Bisciotti of Massachusetts, Christopher Bisciotti of Canada, Connor Guiheen of Florida, Shannon Guiheen of Torrington, CT, Amanda Yannucci of Florida and Joshua Casper of New York.

Deeply saddened by his loss are other members of Joe’s closest extended family including his two nieces, Diana and Lisa, his nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and his great grandchildren.

Joe was the oldest of three children born in New Britain, CT to Italian immigrant parents, (late) Michael and (late) Marie (Sbrigilio) Reale.  Joe is predeceased by his sister, Rosalie (Reale) DiValentino but is survived by his dear brother, Michael Reale of Kensington, CT.

In his teenage years Joe was a member of the New Britain Hustler’s baseball team. The team was reunited in 2004 and since then the surviving members of the team continue to meet several times annually to reminisce and relive the “glory days”.

Joe was graduated from New Britain High School, after which he joined the National Guard.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant.

Joe was a skilled mason and he worked in that capacity for the Town of West Hartford for 30 years before striking out on his own.  He was self-employed in that field for many more years.  Upon retirement he and Adele traveled extensively.

Joe’s favorite pastime was playing old jazz classics on the saxophone and clarinet.  He was a lifetime member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a communicant of Center Congregational Church in Torrington.

Joe’s family wishes to thank all of the medical professionals, especially the caregivers and volunteers from Hartford Healthcare At-Home Hospice for their kindness and support throughout the length of Joe’s illness.

Joe’s final requests include cremation and a private family funeral service.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Joe’s memory may choose to send a donation to: Center Congregational Church, 155 Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790 or The Sullivan Senior Center, 88 East Albert Street, Torrington, CT 06790.  www.phalenfuneral.com
