On Sunday, May 24, 2026 while watching the Indy 500, Joseph Manes passed away suddenly and peacefully of natural causes. He grew up in Torrington, Ct, and attended Oliver Wolcott Technical School's automotive program. He met is his beloved wife, Beverly (deceased) his junior year. They were married almost 55 years, and lived in Litchfield, CT most of that time. He is survived by his two daughters, Jean Manes (West Springfield, MA) & Corinne Manes (Southington, CT), his sister, Joanne Denton (Torrington, CT) and his nephew, Timothy Denton.
He enjoyed drag racing his Willys for several years while Bev packed his parachute. He ran Competition Speed Specialties on Water Street before becoming a Mechanic for the City of Torrington, where he also served as President of the union. He was still actively involved in the AFSCME Retirees Union, was on the Board of Directors for the Torrington Municipal & Teachers Federal Credit Union, and served for over 40 years as treasurer of the Torrington Fish & Game. He also was an active member of the Litchfield Democratic Town Committee.
He loved all things cars, the Yankees, and the UCONN Women's Basketball team.
Calling hours will be held at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave.,Torrington, CT on Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 5 - 7 PM.
