John J. Kucera, Jr, of Torrington, passed away at his home on Monday, November 20, 2023. He was born in Torrington on June 15, 1944, son of the late John and Grace (Stomski) Kucera. John graduated from Sacred Heart School in June 1958 and Oliver Wolcott Technical School from the electrical trade program in June of 1962. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and received basic training at Lackland Air Force Base followed by missile maintenance training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. Following completion of his course, he was assigned to McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas serving with the 381st Strategic Missile Wing. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned home and began a 40-year career as an electrical technician with Sears Roebuck.
He is survived by his sister Margaret (Peggy) Bisciotti, two nieces Melissa Jeans and Krista Baril, his two nephews Keith Bisciotti and Thomas Paganini, and great nephews Aiden, Evan, and Noah and great nieces Olivia and Grace, and brother-in-law Christopher Paganini. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Thomas and sister Kathleen Paganini.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday Dec. 4, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Francis Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 160 Main St Torrington CT. Burial with Military Honors will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital (stjude.org) or Shriners Hospital for Children (shrinershospitalfor children.org) www.phalenfuneral.com
