John Alan Farkas

 John Alan Farkas, 58, of Colebrook, CT, passed away Sunday, July 18th, at home.

John was born in Torrington, CT on February 9, 1963, the son of the late Theresa (Sochon) and John Farkas. He was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical School’s Class of 1981 and was self-employed as the owner of the electrical business, Northern Light and Power Co.

He is survived by his children, Andrew Farkas of Nashua, NH, Amy Farkas of Torrington, Jay Farkas of Colebrook, Brett Farkas and wife Jaymee of Bantam and their son Brett Jr.  He also leaves his longtime partner Erika Carter and her child Will of Torrington, Mimi Kalenauskas of Torrington, friend and mother to his children, and sister Diane Kozlak of Cocoa, FL.  In addition, he leaves his beloved dogs; Thema, Khloe, and Zora and grand-pup and buddy, Skippy, whom he spoiled more than anyone.

John had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid collector of many things including classic cars, popular sci-fi memorabilia, and sports memorabilia. He preferred Star Trek to Star Wars but would watch anything with his kids. He was a lifetime, though often disgruntled, New York Jets and Yankees fan, enjoyed classic car shows, spending time with his loved ones and extended family, and never said no to a good diner breakfast.  He was rarely the loudest voice in a room but was one of the most interesting and engaging if you took the time to listen.  He had extensive knowledge of the history of the NASA space program, US military history, and the great civilizations of the world. John was much loved and will be greatly missed by his loved ones and many friends.

His family will receive relatives and friends Friday, July 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington.
