Harriet Vergaro Obituary
Harriet A. (Moser) Vergaro passed away on December 17, 2021 at the age of 90. She was the widow of Ferdinand (Fred) Vergaro. Harriet was born on June 14, 1931 to the late Anna (Kruser) and Ernest Moser. She was a lifelong resident of Torrington.
Harriet graduated from Torrington High School, Class of 1949. She enjoyed attending her monthly reunion luncheons with her classmates. She also graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1952. She was a RN at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. She worked on the 4th floor for many years and her former patients still remember her kindness and dedication to nursing.
After her retirement Harriet became a volunteer in the Social Services Dept. and the Gift Shop at the Hospital. She had over 6,900 hours of volunteer service and was also a member of the hospital auxiliary. Harriet loved to travel. She saw much of the United States and also went to Ireland, Germany and Switzerland with her husband and friends.
Harriet is survived by her adopted family which includes her children Peter J. Vergaro and his wife Joan and Pamela V. Yeske. She also leaves a son-in-law Thomas Martinotti and two grandchildren Beth Martinotti and Greg Martinotti. There are three great grandchildren, Joshua, Ava and Cooper.
Besides her parents, Ernest and Anna (Kruser) Moser, she was predeceased by her husband Fred Vergaro, daughter Cheryl L. Martinotti and son-in-law Robert J. Yeske.
The family will receive guests on Monday, December 20th, from 10 am to 11 am at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 837 Charles Street, Torrington. The funeral service will commence at 11 am with a reception to follow at the Church’s Fellowship Hall. The burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harriet’s name. ww.phalenfuneral.com
