Gordon F. Benedict of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, formerly of Torrington and Litchfield, Connecticut, died August 10, 2022. He was the widower of Doris (Macchi) Benedict.
Born January 29, 1930, in Winchester, CT, he was the son of the late Orson and Marion (Shean) Benedict. He graduated from Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts, received his AS degree in Electrical Engineering from Waterbury State Technical College, and received his BS degree in Business Management from Post College.
Gordon was employed by Northeast Utilities Service Companies for 37 years– Connecticut Power, Hartford Electric Light, and Connecticut Light and Power; and retired from Yankee Gas Services Company where he was Superintendent of Operations for the Bethel/Shelton service areas.
He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Radio Announcer for AFN, the American Forces Radio Network, stationed in Nurnberg, Germany. He was the recipient of The Army of Occupation medal, Germany.
Gordon was a Life Member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks where he was active for many years. He served as Exalted Ruler of the Lodge during 1977-1978, and was then appointed District Deputy GER Connecticut Northwest for the Lodge Year 1978-1979.
He was also a member of St. Anthony Council #56, Knights of Columbus, Litchfield; VFW Post 9086, Torrington; and American Legion Post 27, Litchfield. He also held Amateur Radio License W1LUP and was formerly a member of the CQ Radio Club.
Gordon treasured his family and friends, especially spending quality time with granddaughter Lea. He enjoyed golf, tennis, and pickleball with many friends both in Florida and Connecticut.
He was a member of St Anthony of Padua church in Litchfield, CT and the Church of The Epiphany in Port Orange, FL.
Gordon is survived by two daughters, Sandra Capuano (Bill) and Diane Benedict Coury (Jeff), the joy of his life granddaughter Lea Vedovelli, two nephews, one niece, and several cousins. He was predeceased by son Robert, brother-in-law Joseph Gelormino, and sister-in-law Viola Gelormino.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7 at 10:30am at St Anthony’s Church in Litchfield. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, September 6 at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington, CT.
