Gerald Patterson Sr. Obituary

TORRINGTON – Gerald T. Patterson (Jerry, Papa), 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry is survived by his two sons, Gerald Patterson, Jr., of Torrington, Connecticut, and Michael B. Patterson (Janet) of Surfside Beach, South Carolina. He also leaves behind his brother “Dickie” Patterson (Sylvia) of Norfolk, CT, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Jacob, and Dakota (Coco). Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Agnes K. Patterson, in 2023, and his siblings, Phyllis Arsego, Elinore Day, Barbara L. Perkins, Roderick J. Perkins, Kenneth Reynolds, and Patty Patterson.

Born in Torrington on April 16, 1938, Jerry was raised by his foster parents, James F. Perkins and Thelma B. Perkins, of Norfolk, CT. He attended Oliver Wolcott Technical High School, graduating with the Class of 1956, and enlisted in the Army Reserves, where he trained at Fort Knox. Jerry met the love of his life, Agnes, while working at the former Wildwood Dairy Farm owned by Raymond and Myrtle Thuillard. They married at Sacred Heart Church in Torrington on October 25, 1958.

Jerry dedicated over 40 years as a tool and die maker at The Torrington Company before retiring. He continued to work part-time at his son Michael’s company, Doyle’s Medical Supply, until January 2024. For more than two decades, Jerry and Agnes found joy vacationing at Seaview Campgrounds in Eastport, Maine, where he could fish and relax on the porch of their cabin. Jerry loved travel, whether cruising to Alaska, vacationing in Rhode Island, visiting family in Florida, or supporting his grandchildren at the National Duckpin Tournament in Maryland. He also enjoyed frequent trips to casinos from Foxwoods to Las Vegas. An avid gardener and fisherman, Jerry delighted in wildlife around his home, including his beloved raccoon “Patsy”, skunks, possums, hummingbirds, foxes, and feral cats that brought him daily joy.

Jerry was a devout fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Angelic Health Hospice of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, especially nurses Lynda and Chelsea, for their exceptional care.
