Gerald Casson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gerald Lynn Casson
Gerald “Gerry” Lynn Casson, 78, of Torrington, CT, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025. Born on August 29, 1946, in Torrington, Gerry was the beloved son of the late Pearl (Weingart) and James Casson. He was raised in Harwinton alongside his four brothers and one sister, a close family whose bonds helped shape his sense of loyalty, humor, and strength. A graduate of Lewis S. Mills High School in Burlington, Gerry went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. As an E5 Specialist in nuclear weapons, he was stationed in Vicenza, Italy, where he welcomed the birth of his daughter, Suzanne Lynn Casson, in 1971—a moment that forever held a special place in his heart.
Gerry built a long and successful career in the plastics industry, working for 26 years as a Sales Engineer with Seitz Corporation. Later, he continued doing what he loved at Granite State Plastics in New Hampshire, where he served for another decade before retiring. Known for his dedication, wit, and easygoing charm, Gerry forged lasting relationships both in and out of the office.
Gerry found joy in life’s simple adventures and treasured moments with loved ones. With his wife, Carol, he embraced new hobbies like kayaking, cross-country skiing, and cheering on the races in Saratoga. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, and keeping his yard beautifully maintained—a reflection of the care he brought to everything. Gerry had a true gift for making the holidays magical, especially Christmas, which he celebrated with unforgettable parties and festive outdoor displays that grew more elaborate each year.
To those who knew him, Gerry was larger than life: warm, funny, fiercely proud of his family, and always willing to go the extra mile to bring joy to others. He was never happier than when surrounded by those he loved, especially his grandchildren, who lit up his world.
Gerry is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Carolyn Casson, and his cherished dogs that he loved so much; his daughter and son-in-law, Caron and Eric Carpenter of South Windsor; step-son, Kevin Spring of Winsted; and step-daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Spring and David Smith of Virginia. He was a proud and loving Papa to his grandchildren: Isabelle and Madison Carpenter, and Gracie and Tyler Spring. He is also survived by his brothers, James Casson of Bristol, Fran Casson (and his wife Jackline) of Torrington, and Dennis Casson of Bristol, as well as many close friends who became like family.
He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Janet Casson of Bristol, his brother Terrence Casson of Harwinton, and his beloved daughter Suzanne Casson of Panama City, FL. Gerry leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and light. He will be missed beyond words but remembered forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
