George A. Bruno, 97, of Torrington passed away June 28 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Barbara Hultquist Bruno. The last of six siblings, he was born in Torrington Aug. 5, 1923, son of the late Antonio and Regina Bruno. After serving in the Army for three years George was employed as an engineer at Turner & Seymour Manufacturing in Torrington. He later developed, and was self employed as a wooden works clock maker and repairs master up until about the past ten years. He researched, developed and built machines to make and repair wooden works clocks made before 1840. He was a Fellow in the National Association of Watch Clock Collectors and was a donator in the Bristol Clock and Watch Museum in Connecticut. He was a speaker at many regional clock associations for many years, and was known nationally for his research and publications on antique wooden works clocks. He was a past member of the Elks Choral Group and the Germania Singing Society. He was a proud member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Torrington.
He is survived by his son Donald G. Bruno and wife Donna, and grandson David S. Bruno and his daughter Hannah. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
