Frederick Sidelinger Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick T. Sidelinger. Frederick T. Sidelinger, 74, of Torrington, CT passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born on September 25, 1949, in Torrington, CT to Frederick V. and Irene (Wilklow) Sidelinger of Torrington CT. A lifelong resident of Torrington, He grew up on Riverside
Avenue until the catastrophic flood of 1955 which his home succumbed to, his family then purchased their house on the very top of Borough Street where he spent the rest of his childhood growing up and making memories with his parents and sisters. In 1966 he met the love of his life Carol (Pregno) Sidelinger, they were married on October 05,1968, and soon after they welcomed their daughter in 1969 and their son in 1970. Throughout their wonderful 55 years of marriage, they made a tremendous number of unforgettable memories together. Enjoying their time together they took many wonderful vacations together such as Las Vegas and Disney Land. They enjoyed going on spontaneous day trips and overnight trips to the casino. You could catch them sitting outside in their rocking chairs together on sunny days talking and reminiscing about their adventures and the memories they made.
Fred was a tool and die maker at Torin for many years, until he moved on and became a tool and die engineer for Truelove and Maclean where he worked until he retired. He was a 48- year life member of the Elks Lodge # 372. Fred always loved a good joke, he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh, you could always count on him for his quick-witted one- liners. He especially loved joking around with his best friend and youngest grandchild Tyler. He also enjoyed telling stories and reminiscing about his younger years, all the adventures he had and the memories of his loved ones. In his free time, he loved going on trips (especially to the casino) with his wife, golfing with his father, son, and grandson FJ, taking rides on his motorcycle, going to get coffee at Dunkin Donuts with his friends and spending time with his loved ones, especially his three grandchildren. He leaves behind his devoted wife Carol (Pregno) Sidelinger. His two children, Sarah Hardy and her husband Jim, and Frederick H. Sidelinger and his fiancé Brenda. His three grandchildren, Amanda Hartwell and her husband Tommy, Frederick J. Sidelinger and his wife Emily and Tyler Sidelinger. He was also excitedly and eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his two sisters Marion Gates and Gailann Nemcik and her husband Andy, sister-in-law Barbara Correll and her husband Howie. Special lifelong friends Roger and Joann Rinaldi, God-daughter Kara Gutic, and His puppy Finnley, along with many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Frederick V. and Irene (Wilklow) Sidelinger, his father and mother-in-law Harold and Louise Pregno, and his much-loved daughter-in-law Michelle (LaMere) Sidelinger. The family would like to thank his nurses Jodi and Sue and would also like to give a special thanks to family friend and his angel nurse Michelle Cyr who went above and beyond to care for him these last few months.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 6, 2024, at 11AM, at Founders Congregational Church, Birge Park Road, Route 4 in Harwinton.
Following the service a celebration of life will be held at the Veneta Society, 108 Central Avenue,in Torrington.  Phalen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.  www.phalenfuneral.com
