Francis Charles Gauthier, 81, passed away Thursday, Dec 13, 2018 after a long illness. He was born September 10, 1937 in Torrington, Ct. and lived most of his life in the family home. He is the son of the late Charles and Mary (Tazzara) Gauthier. A graduate of Oliver Wolcott School, class of 1956, Frank used his skills as a tool and die maker for the Johnson Gage Co. in Bloomfield for 50 dedicated years. There the owner and co-workers became Frank's 2nd family and he would still be there today if health reasons hadn't forced his retirement at the age of 75. Frank took great pride in his home and often would be found in his workshop. He also enjoyed vacationing with family and friends, cheering on the UCONN Huskies and trips to the casinos. But his greatest joy was family. Many picnics and family gatherings were celebrated in the family home and when grandchildren came along he became a kid himself giving horseback rides, playing ball, swinging on the swings and of course napping.
Besides his wife of 60 years, Marcia (Guildford) he leaves his son, Michael along with 3 daughters and their spouses, Christine and Kenneth Carangelo, Valerie and Mark Middlebrook, and Heather and Brandon Rubbo. He also leaves 4 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons, Cynthia Carangelo-Cooper and her son, Jackson, Stephanie Middlebrook and her son, Jakob, Rachel Middlebrook, and Ashley Rubbo. Franny is also survived by his sister, Doris Middlebrook and her husband Bill along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Gauthier.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday Dec. 19 10 AM at Saint Francis Church in Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at Phalen Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
