Frances “Frannie” Samuelson passed away peacefully on June 15th at the age of 78 ,surrounded by family following a brief illness. She will be remembered by family and friends for her generosity, compassion, and wonderful laughter that touched their lives through her.
Frannie was born in Torrington, CT in 1946 to Frank and Catherine Pergola the youngest of three children, growing up with her sisters Carmella (Pergola) MacDonald
and Ann (Pergola) MacDonald, both of whom predeceased Frannie. She graduated from Torrington High School and then worked in the offices of Fitzgerald Gasket and later for the White Flower Farm nursery.
In 1969 Frannie married the love of her life Peter Samuelson, and they lived together in Torrington through 44 years of happy marriage until Peter’s passing in 2013, sharing their home with several dogs and cats over the years. In addition to being a life-long animal lover, Frannie was an avid reader, a tremendous fan of the UConn Women’s basketball team, and was a big part of the area’s classic car community, often attending car shows with Pete and other family and friends. Frannie leaves behind nephew Brian MacDonald and his wife Marianne, nephew Michael
MacDonald and his wife Debra, niece Holly Dube and her husband Charles, and brother-in-law Charles MacDonald. In addition, she will be missed by all her grand-nephews and grand-nieces, as well as her many friends and extended family members.
A memorial service celebrating Frannie’s life will be held at Phalen’s Funeral Home located at 285 Migeon Avenue in Torrington from 5pm-7pm on Monday June 24th. A
private burial will be held at St. Francis Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers thefamily requests donations be made in Frannie’s name to the Little Guild Animal Shelter in Cornwall
