Elizabeth (Aeschlimann) Schaer

Elizabeth (Bette) Schaer of Torrington, CT died August 1, 2020 at home.  She was the widow of John Schaer, a World War II veteran, who died January 10, 1967.  They were married on June 20, 1959.  Bette was born March 10, 1924 in Torrington, the daughter of Fritz Aeschlimann and Agnes (Voumard) Aeschlimann.

She was predeceased by 3 brothers:  Frederick Aeschlimann, Albert Aeschlimann & Robert Aeschlimann and 2 special cousins from Switzerland:  Jean-Louis Aeschlimann & Madeleine Aeschlimann. She is survived by god daughter Marie Higley  and  several nieces & nephews and great and great great nieces and nephews and a gr. gr. gr. niece.

Bette remained close ties with the Schaer family throughout her life and enjoyed being part of their special celebrations.

Bette made a home for her widowed mother for many years.  When she was able, Bette hosted frequent family picnics at her home which was no small task considering the size of the family.  Bette was an active member of United Congregational Church.  She was a bowling league member well into her 80s.

She worked her entire career at the Torrington Company, retiring in 1986.

A Memorial Service will be held at United Congregational Church, 1622 Torringford St., Torrington when Covid 19 restrictions are lifted.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery.  Friends may call at Phalen Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
