Elaine (Smith) Thomas

Elaine Thomas, 100, of Torrington passed away June 18, 2026 at Torrington Health and Rehab Center. She was predeceased by her husbands, Samuel Cappellina and James C. Thomas. Born in Torrington, May 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Agnes (Maloney) Smith. She retired from Fitzgerald Mfg. Co and had served as their Union President for Local 24772. She spent winters in Florida and loved to travel and spend time on the beach.

She leaves her daughter Jeanne Clapps and husband Thomas and grandchildren Gary Beecher, Robin Beecher, and Sherry Weik , 9 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister Virginia Prasso and was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kimberly Pretak and a sister, Rita Roberts.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 25 at 11 AM at Saint Francis Church, with burial following at new Saint Francis Cemetery.  Friends may call prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:30 at Phalen Funeral Home.  www.phalenfuneral.com.
