Edward Henry DuBois (Goni), age 73, of Torrington CT, passed away on 9/11/25. He was born to the late Danis and Ellouise (Larocque) DuBois on 7/13/1952 in Island Pond , VT. As a baby, Eddie moved to CT. Known as ‘Frenchie’ in high school, he was the life of the party, but at 19 he was working as a chef at the SunnysideGrill. Though he studied at Uconn to teach French, when the opportunity came to manage the restaurant he took it, buying the building and serving the best homemade raviolis, manicotti and antipasto for 30 years. He was a gifted chef that could cook anything, and he did: wedding cakes, game dinners, special event catering, even on days the restaurant was closed you’d find him cooking dinner for friends. He was generous to the community, letting many organizations use the facility for Boy Scouts spaghetti dinner fundraiser, baby/wedding showers, and the best Christmas parties ever! He sponsored softball teams and golf tournaments. His favorite job was babysitting his nephew, “Little Eddie.” He volunteered in several Warner Theater plays including Evita, Music Man, Christmas Carol, Peter Pan, and countless others. Who could forget his role as the Grinch in Seussical the Musical and future Christmas events. He was a big hearted, generous, talented man who shared his gifts and hospitality freely with others. He fought a good fight for 16 years after receiving a liver transplant, living his life with courage and unfailing optimism. He was a loving brother to Ronald Dubois, Mary-Lou Osden and Donna-Rae DuBois and is also survived by brother in law, Howard Osden, Sister-in-law Donna Marie Dubois, nephews and several great nephews/niece. He is predeceased by his parents and niece Danielle and her mother Doris. A memorial service will be held Saturday Oct 18, 2025 at Phalen Funeral home. Friends may call prior to the service from 9-11 AM Donations may be made to New England Donor Services in his name. If you haven’t already, sign up to be an organ donor.
