Edward Paul Bonini

Edward Paul Bonini, 93, of St Petersburg, FL died of natural causes Saturday, June 22, at Suncoast Hospice Center.  Prior to moving to Florida in 2018, Ed was a lifelong resident of Torrington, CT.  He was the son of Joseph Paul Bonini and Lisa Meraviglia Bonini, who emigrated from Italy in the early 20th century.  Ed was predeceased by his wife of over 69 years, Eleanor (Yucas) who died in October 2017; his son, Edward Douglas, who died in 1967 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident, and his brother Leonard Bonini and sister Helen Julian.  He is survived by his loving daughters, Cheryl Ellis and her husband Dennis Collins of St Petersburg and Cynthia Bonini and her wife Sue Ellen Dockery of Torrington, as well as several nieces and nephews.  After graduating from Torrington High School in 1944  Ed served in the U.S. Navy as a medic, then worked in The Torrington Company, where he met Eleanor.  Together, they owned and operated Alcot Inc., a home improvement contracting business for many years.

For many years, Ed was a well-known and active member of the Torrington community, having served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, and on the boards of the Torrington Country Club, The Boy Scouts of America and The Knights of Columbus. Along with other members of St Peter’s parish, he was instrumental in raising the funds to establish St Peter Elementary School, which all of his children attended.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by A Life Tribute of Gulfport, FL and the Phalen Funeral Home of Torrington.  Calling hours will be held on Friday July 12 from 10 AM to Noon at Phalen Funeral Home, and a private burial will be scheduled at the convenience of the family.
