Dorothy Pugliese, 97, of Torrington, passed peacefully from this world on January 1st, 2025. Born in Waterbury on March 7th, 1927 to Peter and Marie Gaug. Dorothy spent most of her life living and working in the Waterbury area, eventually retiring from Southbury Training School in 1990. She had a strong Catholic faith throughout her life and was often heard praying to Saint Anthony in her later years for help finding lost items. Dorothy enjoyed a long retirement with many sunny days spent with family and friends in the yard. She enjoyed watching the birds and feeding squirrels, naming many of them. She was an accomplished crocheter, voracious reader, expert puzzler and watched just about every John Wayne movie ever made. Dorothy had a unique way of making everyone she met feel welcomed and special. Dorothy was predeceased by her Husband John and siblings Peter Gaug, Mary Houle and Margaret Gagne. She leaves behind her Daughters Marie Ritter and Therese Talbot and Husband Mark. Her Grandchildren, David Cody and Wife Jocelyn, Christopher Ritter, Rebecca Cody and fiancé Josh, Michael Talbot and Wife Stephanie and Marissa Wescott and Husband Brandon, as well as her four great grandchildren. For those that knew and loved Dorothy, please try not cry for her but instead smile and raise a glass of wine in toast of the beautiful life she lived. Services will be on Monday, January 6th, 11AM at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington followed by internment at Cavalry Cemetery in Waterbury.
