Doreen O'Sullivan Obituary

Cherished Teacher-Official at Fire Equipment Headquarters

Doreen M. O’Sullivan, 53, of Harwinton, CT passed into eternal rest after a courageous thirteen-year battle with cancer.
Doreen was a walking angel, a genuine beacon of light to everyone she encountered. She was blessed with a huge heart and treated everyone as if they were family. While her husband and three sons were her utmost priority, she was also an amazing schoolteacher and valued education very highly, earning both a bachelor’s from Fairfield University and a Master’s Degree, along with her Sixth-Year Certificate in Educational Administration from Southern Connecticut State University. She was overjoyed when her three children were accepted to Boston College, where they currently attend. Doreen worked for Trumbull High School, Lewis S. Mills High School, and Har-Bur Middle School during her tenure as a Spanish teacher. Beloved by her students and colleagues, she earned the coveted Teacher of the Year award in Trumbull for the 2000/2001 school year.
Outside of the classroom, Doreen remained very active in the community. She was one of the founders of the Harwinton Food Pantry, was a volunteer for the Harwinton Youth Sports Association, and played a vital role in Team Superman, a startup Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser that has since gone national. She also put together the biggest Memorial Day party on
earth each year, where almost the entire town of Harwinton would gather to watch the annual parade. Simply put, if you knew Doreen, you automatically became a better person, as her generosity and kind nature knew no bounds.
Doreen is survived by her loving husband Timothy and three children, Timothy III, Patrick, and Liam, her mother and father, Carol and Marvin Kelly of Niantic, CT, her sister Sarah Kelly and her spouse Sonia Isard of Philadelphia, PA and her aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Robert Epperson of West Chester, PA. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mary Ann O’Sullivan of Harwinton, CT, and her in-laws Stephen and Maura Malo of Litchfield, CT and Jerry and Jennifer O’Sullivan of Santa Monica, CA. Additionally, her nieces, Molly and Colleen Malo, Caroline O’Sullivan and nephews, Zev and Rafi Isard. She had an incredible number of friends, students, and colleagues who loved her dearly.
Services will be held on Friday December 27 from 5:00-8:00PM at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, and a mass will follow on December 28 at Saint Louis de Montfort Parish St. Thomas of Villanova, 71 North Street, Goshen at 11:00AM.
