David Alan Carey, of Torrrington, passed away on November 13 after a long and valiant battle with kidney transplant complications at the age of 65. He was born in Torrington, son of Francis and
Mary (Ryan) Carey and is survived by his only son, David Ryan Carey of Southington, Ct., his wife Michelle, and their two sons, Charles and Henry.
He leaves his sisters, Cathleen (Kitty) Bradshaw-White wife of William White of Holden, Massachusetts, her son Tyler Bradshaw and his wife Emily and their two daughters, Ella and
Samantha, and his sister Calista (Kelly) Black, wife of John Black of Canton and her sons, Sean and Scott Rishar. He also leaves also his niece Jennifer Carey and nephew Eric Carey.
He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Mary, his Brothers John, James and Bryan Carey, and nephew Jason Bradshaw.
David recently retired from the United States Postal Service, where he delivered mail in the Northwest Hills. Co-workers honored him with their sincere friendship and respect. He was a
long-time member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and enjoyed a large and loyal group of friends. David was a graduate of Torrington High School, Class of 1976, and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in this country and in the Mediterranean. He lived in Torrington his entire life and enjoyed sports - especially baseball, football and UConn basketball. He was
an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Giants (for better or worse). David also loved playing golf with his many friends. He was a dedicated youth coach; coaching his son for many years in baseball, basketball and soccer. He also followed his son far and wide as he played soccer around CT and in college. David was a compassionate, giving human soul that always kept to himself and was always ready to listen to other people. More significantly, he was a devoted and loving single father to David. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, November 21 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington. His mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St.Francis Church in Torrington at 11:00 am on Friday, November 22.
