Obituary

 

Darlene Mae (Cooke) Mantz RN went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2023 following a long battle with Huntington’s disease. She was the loving wife of Gregory Mantz.
Darlene was born January 26, 1962 at Waterbury Hospital to Gail (Stowell) Cooke and Richard Cooke Sr. Darlene graduated from Newtown High School, class of 1980. Darlene then went to Berkshire Community College to earn her RN degree in Nursing. From there she worked at New Milford Hospital on the Medical Surgical and One Day Surgery floors for 15 years of which she loved every moment. She worked with and met many great patients and co-workers many of whom became close friends. She was also a friendly and familiar face at her husband’s business Ace Marine Service.
Darlene was predeceased by our daughter Stephanie Elizabeth, granddaughter Everly Mae Brown, mother Gail (Stowell) Cooke of Sandy Hook, in laws James and Evelyn Mantz of Wolcott, and brothers David A. Cooke and Richard Cooke Jr. and brother-in-law Kevin Myers of Cape Coral FL.

Darlene is survived by her beloved husband Gregory Mantz, son Joshua Mantz and daughter Jessica Mae Brown and husband Ben Brown, grandchildren Summer and Noah Brown, father Richard Cooke (Connie), sister Debra (Cooke) Myers, brothers Daniel Cooke (Linda) and Douglas Cooke along with many adoring nieces, nephews and friends.
Darlene most enjoyed time with her family and friends, on vacations or cruises and walking, and especially watching our grandchildren grow.
Darlene will be remembered best as a loving Wife, caring Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Nurse and Friend.
Darlene wishes to thank her family, friends and members of the First Congregational Church and Torrington First Assembly for all of their loving support.
Please don’t mourn my passing as now I am free from this horrific disease. I cherished every moment I spent with all of you. God bless you. Love one another until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 21, 2023 at Torrington First Assembly 387 New Harwinton Road Torrington, CT 06790 at 11am followed by food and fellowship.
